It’s that time of year again. Time to think about outdoor spaces and count the days until winter ends. Sitting around the fire pit in a comfy chair looking out at the beautiful landscaping. Bliss. This post will tell you how to get your backyard from blah to amazing. As I am writing this post, there is a forecast for snow tomorrow. But since I am so looking forward to spring, I figured, it’s never too early to start planning your outdoor space. Even though it may not seem like it, spring will be here before you know it!
1. Comfy Seating
If you only get one thing on this list, get comfy seating. Sure, a hard plastic patio chair works but who wants to hang out on those? Make sure your outdoor chairs or couches are comfy so you’ll be able to hang out there all summer long. Here is a super comfy looking chair set I just saw at Target.
2. Rugs
Having a rug in an outdoor space may feel really extra. But having one can help define the space and bring on the coziness (the same way a rug indoors does. For more tips on choosing rugs, click here.) When looking for an outdoor rug, look for one that is water proof or can be hosed off.
3. Outdoor Lighting
You don’t need a full on light fixture (although something like this would look amazing!) But having string lights like these can ensure you can hang out in your new space after dark.
4. Tables
Even if you don’t have enough room for a full dining table outside, having some type of side table where you can put down your drink or your book is always helpful. Here is one that I currently have on my porch and am so happy with!
5. A fire pit
In the backyard of my dreams (which is yet to exist), I have a gas fire pit that is turned on by the press of a button. Those are amazing but if you are looking for a more budget-friendly alternative, fire pits that you light yourself can be really cheap. Here is a gas powered option and an inexpensive, more DIY fire pit.
Don’t forget to add in cozy accessories like outdoor pillows and blankets. This will complete the look and just make you want to get comfy and stay outside forever. I know that’s what I want to do right now! Enjoy your new outdoor space.
