7 Simple Updates for Kids’ Rooms

A kid’s bedroom may be an afterthought when it comes to design. But it shouldn’t be! These ideas will help to update your kids’ room in design and functionality. A few minor updates are all it takes to create a fresh and updated space. Even if you have limited time and money, you can use these ideas to take your child’s room from boring to fabulous!

Paint

A fresh coat of paint may be all you need to freshen up your kid’s room. Be creative! Paint an accent wall, or a pattern, or paint the ceiling. Generally, I recommend that clients go more neutral in a kids’ room so that it can grow with them. Click here for a free download with the best neutral paint colors.

Rug

A rug is a simple solution if you have hard flooring or just don’t like the flooring in your kids’ room. Click here for more info about rugs.

Storage

Since kids tend to acquire lots of toys, books, and clothing, it’s always a good idea to add storage, whether baskets, under-bed bins, or a shelf.

New Linen

Since the bed is usually the focal point of a room, adding new linen is an easy way to change up the room. Alternatively, you can add a new throw pillow (or two.)

Clear the Clutter

Clutter is inevitable, especially when kids are involved. Make sure to clean out clutter every so often so that you’ll be able to see their beautiful room under the mess.

Add Personal Flair

If your child is old enough, consult with them on what they want to add to their room. You can also hang up their own art or prized possessions to add that personal touch without spending a ton of money.

Add a Reading Nook

If there’s a corner of your child’s room that is empty, you can use this space to create a reading area. To do this, use a dog bed as the base (since it’s thinner than a bean bag) and added lots of throw pillows, a canopy, and some wall shelves.
