How to Organize your Home for Back to School Season

As the summer draws to a close (eek! Where did all the time go?!), it’s time to start thinking about (gulp) sending our kids back to school. And that means our homes have to be ready for that as well. Back to school is a time of excitement and new beginnings, but it can also be a stressful time for families. There are so many things to do, from buying school supplies to getting organized. But don’t worry, we’re here to help! In this blog post, I will share some tips on how to organize your home for back-to-school so that you can start the new school year off on the right foot.

Here are the zones that when organized, will make getting back into the routine of the school year a breeze!

Zone 1: The Entryway

Having an organized and aesthetically pleasing entryway will help on those busy mornings when you need to get everyone out the door. You’ll be able to find those shoes, coats, and backpacks with ease. Here are a few suggestions to whip your entryway into shape before school starts.

Bench: The perfect spot to tie shoes, put on jackets, etc.

Hooks: Give backpacks a permanent place so you’ll never scramble to find them again.

Shoe Storage: This way, you won’t be late for school because you had to spend time looking for that elusive shoe.

Zone 2: The Kitchen

Having your kitchen organized for leisurely breakfasts and school snacks can help streamline your morning.

Pantry: Have snacks for school in an easy-to-reach spot if your kids are up to the stage where they are packing up their own food for school.  For more pantry organization ideas, click here or here.

Baskets: Use baskets to organize your pantry and make it easy to find what you need. No more wasted time trying to find the oatmeal packets in the morning.

Decant: Put your cereal into clear containers with a spout like these so your kids can serve themselves. This also helps you see when your cereal is running low so you can restock beforehand instead of finding out on a busy morning when you’re in a rush.

Zone 3: The Closet

Having a functional closet where you or your children can find what they need easily is key to having a smooth morning.

Out-of-Season Clothes: Store these high up or in a totally different spot. You don’t want these together with the clothes you need now.

Hamper: Have a cute hamper that makes it easy for kids to keep their laundry in the right spot.

Everyday Items: Keep shoes and undergarments where your kids can easily reach them.

I know organizing can cause overwhelm. Don’t let it! Pick one zone and go from there. Enjoy your newly organized space that not only looks beautiful but will also help you to have a smoother morning.

More Tips:

Here are some additional tips for organizing your home for back to school:

  • The first step to organizing your home is to declutter. This means getting rid of anything that you don’t use, need, or love. This can be a daunting task, but it’s important to remember that it will make the rest of the organizing process much easier.
  • Use clear storage containers so that you can see what’s inside. This will help you avoid clutter and make it easier to find what you need.
  • Label everything so that you know where it goes. This will help you keep your home organized and save you time when you’re looking for something.
  • Get your kids involved in the organizing process. This will help them learn how to keep their things organized and make it more likely that they will keep their rooms clean. Let them help you declutter, choose storage solutions, and put things away.

Organizing your home for back-to-school can be a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. By following these tips, you can get your home organized and ready for the new school year in no time.
